Sen. Joe Hune

LANSING, Mich. – State Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg, issued the following statement on Tuesday, in response to Gov. Rick Snyder’s 2016 State of the State address:

“Tonight the governor devoted much of his speech to the people of Flint and its ongoing water crisis. The government’s first priority is the safety of its residents and we must come together to help our fellow Michiganders in Flint.

“While this crisis demonstrates a need for further government reforms, we must do what we can now to ensure the health and well-being of Flint residents and fix the city’s immediate water problems. I look forward to working with my colleagues and the governor’s administration to find a way to overcome this tragedy and to make sure proper oversight and accountability are put in place so nothing like this happens again.

“Michigan has proven over the past five years what it can do when we work together to overcome our shared challenges, and I am confident that we can continue this positive momentum in 2016.”
