LANSING — Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg Township, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling on the federal Affordable Care Act:
“I respect the justices serving on the United States Supreme Court but today they got it wrong when they upheld Obamacare. I am deeply disappointed in the decision handed down today – it is not what is in the best interest of Michigan residents and other citizens across the country.
“The president had claimed that this was not a tax. However, today’s decision clarified that that is exactly what this is – a tax. I believe in free market principles – not in relying on government bureaucrats who think they know what’s best for everyone else.
“By passing a state health care exchange to provide consumers with choices for their private insurance, the Senate Republicans helped prevent the federal government from imposing a one-size-fits-all bureaucratic scheme upon us.”
