LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joe Hune (left), R-Fowlerville, joined state Reps. Hank Vaupel, R-Handy Township, and Lana Theis, R-Brighton, for grant presentations at the VINA Community Dental Center and the University of Michigan Student Run Health Center on Monday in Brighton.
“These grants represent a continued commitment to ensure that those who need dental care most will continue to have access to excellent dental care in our community,” Hune said. “I’m glad that VINA Community Dental Center will continue to provide their excellent services in our community.”
The clinic, located in Brighton, is a free dental clinic for those without insurance. Many local dentists volunteer or support the clinic with donations. The clinic treats over 1,600 low income, uninsured patients on an annual basis. If patients need specialty dental care, VINA has a network of dental specialists who can help.
VINA Community Dental Center has been funded since 2008 and has been awarded $202,890 to date. The University of Michigan Student Run Clinic has been funded for the past two years and has been awarded $17,800.
