LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg, and Sen. Rebekah Warren, D-Ann Arbor, on Thursday welcomed veterans from their districts for a luncheon following the Michigan Senate’s 21st Annual Memorial Day Service. Rep. Hank Vaupel, R-Fowlerville, joined Hune and Warren for the lunch.
“Hosting this luncheon is a small token of our appreciation for the veterans in our community,” Hune said. “While Memorial Day is the time we honor those servicemen and women who have lost their lives protecting our freedoms, it is important we pay tribute and honor our veterans and those who are still serving today.”
During the Senate’s Memorial Day Service, lawmakers honored soldiers from their districts who died within the past year. Families who lost loved ones were also recognized by the Senate.
The Michigan Senate held its first Memorial Day Service at the initiative of former U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers, who was then a state senator.
